The Projector Screen Showdown is an annual event that rigorously evaluates ultra short throw (UST) projectors to identify the top performers in home entertainment technology. In its third year, the 2024 Showdown featured a panel of six expert judges, including ISF-certified calibrators and professional reviewers, who assessed each projector's color accuracy, contrast, black levels, and detail sharpness. Run and directed by Phil Jones, Owner and Lead Reviewer at ProjectorReviews.com, the evaluations were conducted in both bright and dark room settings, using standardized test patterns and diverse content to ensure comprehensive assessments.
The Hisense PX3-PRO emerged as the standout winner of this year’s Showdown, earning the highest overall score and being named the top pick by five out of six judges. Building on its predecessor, the PX2-PRO, the PX3-PRO introduced significant improvements, including tripling the native contrast ratio to exceed 3,000:1, enhanced dynamic contrast, and superior image processing. Its exceptional brightness ensures stunning, vibrant visuals even in ambient light, making it ideal for both bright and dark room setups.
The PX3-PRO’s remarkable performance, cutting-edge features, and outstanding value at $3,499 firmly establish it as a leader in the UST projector market. Hisense also celebrated success with the PL2, which secured third place overall. As a single-laser projector, the PL2 impressed judges with its ability to hold its own against more expensive triple-laser competitors. While its color gamut was more limited, the absence of laser speckle ensured smooth, high-quality visuals. Remarkably, the PL2 excelled in Standard Dynamic Range (SDR), achieving top marks in four of six SDR categories and ranking second overall for High Dynamic Range (HDR). Judges noted that while triple-laser models often edged out the PL2 for preference, the PL2 easily outperformed projectors costing more than twice its price, solidifying its reputation as one of the best single-laser projectors on the market.
